I saw The Visitor over the weekend and can recommend it. It’s a touching story that raises awareness about immigration in this country, which has become quite difficult, even for honest people. I also really dug the drum music in the film. To learn more, watch the trailer or visit the film’s page at the IMDB.
NOTE: You’ll be seeing more of these micro-reviews from me, which I hope add value.
Just added it to my Netflix queue!
The crap they put immigrants through these days is insane. Back before 9-11 it was a bit easier, but still quite a hassle. Bottom line is that America doesn’t “need” more people these days, so the thresholds for acceptance are being raised and the loopholes are being closed. If you live somewhere bad and you happen to be tired and poor, guess you should try Canada or maybe France?
Even though I have seen this first hand due to my greencard wife, I am still not sure if I feel things should be changed. The reality is that our current economy can’t support hordes of non-contributors, and too many people seem to think that it is wrong to use your brain when it comes time for social program handouts. Another option would be to simply allow more people to legally become citizens, but somebody has set the levels as they are for some reason, and lets face it, you could never make the limit high enough to make everyone happy.
Still, it is easy for me as a white guy whose family has been here for 3 generations to forget that if not for the once open borders, I would have been born in Norway or Germany, and I can’t speak either of those languages! In general, I think our treatment of immigrants that came here legally should be improved significantly, especially for hot young females.
