I am not the founder of The Crack Team (credit Renegade), but I have been a member for over 10 years. My primary specialties include pop culture (primarily movies and music) and software (all aspects, including management). I also serve as a fountain of useless knowledge, which is not terribly unique among team members of The Crack Team. I have been subscribed to Netflix for over 6 years, which means I could have purchased about 100 DVDs at $15 each. However, I rarely see movies more than once, so this is a much better deal for me. If I’m going to watch something more than once, it means I really liked it, so I’ll just buy it (as long as it has a commentary). That’s also factors into my movie rating on Netflix, and I’ve rated about 1,200 movies to date. Here is my system:
- 1 star: Wow. That really sucked.
- 2 stars: As much as love movies, this wasted my time.
- 3 stars: I liked it, but I probably wouldn’t see it twice. I might give this rating to a movie if it was really well done, but so emotionally distressing/depressing that I don’t want to live through it twice.
- 4 stars: Very good, and I’ll probably catch it again some time.
- 5 stars: So good that I want to learn from it, either as a wannabe filmmaker, or just as a human being. If a commentary is available for this, I’ll definitely watch it.
Here is my most recent Netflix activity:
I’m a recent Rhapsody convert, since I have a similar philosophy about music - I crave new stuff all the time. Granted, music is much more conducive to repeated listenings, since it only takes 5 minutes, or perhaps more importantly, only requires your ears. Still, I like to be able to connect the dots and follow the trails of pop music’s past and present. Please note I am using the term “pop” music only to differentiate it from classical, jazz, bluegrass, etc. Basically, think of the giant “Pop, Rock, and Soul” section at most chain record stores that includes everything. That said, I’m not completely deaf to Top 40 music. It’s just that 97% of the time, I don’t like what I hear. Here’s some stuff I’ve listened to recently (the last 15 albums followed by the last 25 artists), with some of Agent Hulagun’s activity mixed in (we share the account). Pretty much anything that has been played to death on SoCal radio stations like KROQ (e.g., Nirvana, RHCP, Rage Against the Machine, 311) is Hulagun’s. Since he doesn’t bother with radio, he hasn’t been bombarded with it like I have. The rest of the stuff could be either of ours.
